English Department

The Faculty of the Department of English, Tirot Sing Memorial College had its beginning in 1981 under the then Pre- University System. Afterwards, the Bachelor of Arts Pass Course was started in 1992. The College was granted permission and received affiliation from the North Eastern Hill University in the subject. Subsequently, the Honours Course was supplemented in 1995. Permanent affiliation was granted by the University on 30th June 2004. Our 31-year journey was anything but memories that can be transcribed in no other words but hardships filled with gratification. The Department currently has two permanent faculty members with two College post teachers and has a total undergraduate strength of around (number of students ???) honours students. The undergraduate course that the Department teaches is in line with the syllabus that has been prescribed by NEHU and deals with the History of English Literature from its early roots to its current manifestations in national literature that has adopted the English language as a medium of cultural expression. Poetry, Fiction and Drama are all tackled in the course and the Department seeks to impart the importance of literature as a discipline to the students with the objective of helping the students to adopt a healthy curiosity for the world around them and develop critical thinking in individuals. The Department also teaches the BA and B. Com. streams of the undergraduate level.
